Several injured after school bus and coal truck collide in Letcher County

FLAT GAP, Ky. (Letcher County) — A Letcher County school bus collided with a coal truck Friday afternoon, causing several injuries.

Trooper Matt Gayheart with Kentucky State Police Post 13 tells Mountain Top News that several people were injured and taken to the hospital, including some students. However, he said none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

Friday evening, Letcher County Schools released a statement saying the bus driver and 22 students were treated at Whitesburg ARH and released. One student was transferred to another facility for further care.

The crash happened about two miles up Route 932 near Flat Gap. That location caused some confusion in Johnson County, where there is another community by the same name.

Route 932 is currently closed while first responders work the accident. Trooper Gayheart said it is expected to remain closed until at least 4:30 or 5 p.m.

This is a developing story. Mountain Top News will provide more information as soon as it is available.
