A Floyd County family is homeless after losing their house to a fire

fire_harold_2Floyd County, Ky.–The Betsy Layne fire Protection District was called out this afternoon to a residence on 1st street in Harold. Although they arrived within minutes of the call the home was already engulfed in flames.

Three people were inside the residence when the fire started. The homeowner says he suspects an electrical problem with a ceiling fan was the cause of the fire.

Family members say the fire took mere minutes to destroy what took the homeowner a decade to build.

Family member 1: “I got a call a little after ten and mom said the house was on fire. I got here about ten or fifteen minutes later and it was burnt, it was gone, they had lost everything. My mom, my step-dad and my brother, thank God they were able to get out. “

Family member 2: “He started with a one bedroom single wide trailer. He literally built it with his bare hands. The entire house ended up being a three bedroom home with a garage, a nice carport. You can see how big the place was and he literally built it with his bare hands over the course of ten years adding rooms here and there. He didn’t have any insurance and it was a complete loss, he lost everything he had and my uncle is the kind of guy who has helped people and would help anybody.”
