PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Floyd County woman has been recognized as a “Hometown Hero” by discount grocery chain Save A Lot.

Tammy Amburgey, chair of Middle Creek Community Development and Food Pantry, of Prestonsburg, was selected as a Hometown Hero through voting on the Save A Lot Facebook page.

Amburgey took on management of the food pantry following the sudden loss of her mother and step father. She also expanded it to provide 50 monthly food baskets to local families.

Amburgey received a $500 Save A Lot gift card for winning the honor.

Save A Lot’s Hometown Heroes program aims to showcase people and organizations that are making a difference in the communities that the company serves.
