FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is getting a boost in his bid to move from the Governor’s Mansion to Number One Observatory Circle, better known as the vice president’s residence.
Beshear has been rumored to be on the shortlist for consideration as likely Democratic nominee Kamala Harris’s running mate, ever since the vice president announced her intention to seek the nomination for president following the withdrawal of President Biden.
Now a poll by Morning Consult is giving his bid a little more heft with a high ranking on the national stage. Beshear posted a 67 percent approval rating in the poll, good enough to make him the second-most popular governor in the country and the most popular Democratic governor.
Harris is expected to finalize her selection of a running mate before Aug. 7.
Meanwhile, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice isn’t seeking a vice presidential slot, but he did get some help in his bid for U.S. Senate, as he also posted high marks.
Justice ranked as the fifth-most popular governor and third-most popular Republican with a 63 percent approval rating.
Vermont’s Phil Scott is the most popular governor in the country, with an 81 percent approval rating.
