Blessing box ribbon cutting held in Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Monday at the Pikeville City Police Department. With the help from the community, the Pikeville City Commission and police and fire departments announced a new blessing box located downtown. The blessing box is a small standing wood pantry filled with useful goods for people in need and placed in a highly visible area for pedestrians. Officials say the philosophy behind the box is to “give what you can, take what you need.” The items range from non-perishable and canned food to bandages, diapers, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and more. The new box is located in front of the Pikeville City Police Department to hopefully make it safer for people to give to those in need.
