LOUISA, Ky. — A Lawrence County man has been indicted on an arson charge, after allegedly setting fire to two trailers on his niece’s property.
Lonnie Lee Parker, 71, of Louisa, is now charged with second-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief.
The incident happened back in March, when Blaine Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fires on Finch Lane. Witnesses had given deputies a description of a vehicle seen at the property around the time the fires broke out. The deputies later found Parker with the truck and asked him what he had been doing earlier in the day.
Parker told police he had went to the store to buy a battery for his truck then burned down two trailers his niece wanted removed from her property. He said no one told him to set the trailers on fire, but that he decided to do it to help her sell the property. Parker said he found some old clothes inside the trailer, so he set them on fire and left.
The fire also damaged a neighboring home.
Parker was indicted earlier this month and arrested on Monday. He is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville on a $20,000 cash bond.
