FRANKFORT, Ky. — Dr. Michael McKinney, the Prestonsburg dentist currently under indictment for allegedly attempting to cover up the murder of Amber Spradlin, is free to resume practicing dentistry, after the Kentucky Board of Dentistry lifted its suspension of his license.
Spradlin’s body was found in McKinney’s home June 18. She had been stabbed at least 11 times in the neck and head.
McKinney’s son, M.K. McKinney, is charged with her murder. Both McKinneys and Josh Mullins are also charged with eight counts of tampering with physical evidence for allegedly cleaning up the crime scene, destroying video evidence and planting a fake murder weapon.
Following his indictment, the Board of Dentistry voted Aug. 2 to suspend McKinney’s license.
On Wednesday, they reversed course.
“The [Law Enforcement Committee], in consideration of the fact that Dr. McKinney has been released on bail by the court, has pled not guilty to all pending charges and further has been permitted by the court to return to work with the provision that he is home each day by 5 p.m. … does hereby dismiss the Immediate Temporary Suspension previously entered consistent with the court’s order and other conditions in the criminal case against Dr. McKinney,” an order announcing the change says.
It goes on to say the suspension could be reconsidered in the event new charges should be filed or McKinney violates the conditions of his release.
