Harlan County put on a dominant showing Wednesday night, blanking Belfry 8-0 behind a standout effort from Lutcher Gross.
Gross lit up the scoreboard with five goals for the Black Bears, while Austin Tye added two and Trevor Farley chipped in one. On the other end of the field, Harlan County’s defense controlled the pace, holding Belfry without a single shot on goal, according to KHSAA records.
For Belfry, senior goalkeeper Noah Hale kept busy in the net, stopping nine shots on goal despite the Black Bears’ offensive surge.
The victory pushes Harlan County to 5-2 on the year, while Belfry drops to 6-8. The Pirates will close out the regular season at home Monday against Shelby Valley, with kickoff set for 8 p.m.
Before that matchup, Shelby Valley (1-12) will try to add to its lone win of the season in a road trip to Jenkins tonight at 6:30 p.m. The Wildcats will also face Tug Valley on Sept. 27, with action beginning at 2 p.m.
