Doctor pleads guilty to improperly prescribing Suboxone

FRANKFORT, Ky. — A Tennessee doctor has pleaded guilty to federal charges that he illegally distributed Suboxone in Pike and Whitley counties.

Dr. Matthew Rasberry, of Jacksboro, Tennessee, pleaded guilty to four counts of unlawfully distributing a controlled substance and one count of engaging in a monetary transaction with funds derived from an illegal activity.



Rasberry had no training in addiction medicine, but was nevertheless one of a rotating slate of doctors used by EHC Medical Offices to maximize to maximize the number of patients that could be seen.

In his plea agreement, he admitted to prescribing Suboxone to patients from Elkhorn City and Regina, in Pike County, and Corbin and Woodbine, in Whitley County.

Each of the charges carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Rasberry has also agreed to forfeit more than $360,000 seized from his bank and investment accounts.

He will be sentenced Aug. 11, in Frankfort.
