A flash flood warning has been issued for central and northern Pike County and northeastern Floyd County, until 2 o’clock this afternoon.
At 11 a.m., between 2 and 3 inches of rain had already fallen over the area, and up to 2 more inches of rain was expected. Runoff from that amount of rain is expected to overwhelm small creeks and streams, as well as low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
Communities in the warning area include Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Allen, Coal Run Village, Harold, Betsy Layne, Grethel, Emma, McAndrews, Feds Creek, Phelps, Kimper, Meta and Majestic.
Officials urge to public to remain aware of your surroundings and never to attempt to drive across a water-covered road.
