BETSY LAYNE, Ky. — A Floyd County man was arrested breaking into a store, after he was found inside, lying in the floor.
A sheriff’s deputy responded to the Family Dollar at Betsy Layne Saturday morning, after an employee arrived to open the store and found the front window broken. The employee remained outside because she didn’t know if the intruder was still inside, so the deputy went inside to check.
He found Billy Lee Akers, 33, of Martin, lying in the floor in the back of the store. Akers was detained but told the officer he didn’t know how he got inside the building or if anyone else was there.
No one else was found inside the building, and the store manager was able to produce a security camera video showing Akers breaking into the building. A large rock used to break the window was also found inside the store.
Akers was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief. He is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.
