LOUISA, Ky. — A Lawrence County boy faces a criminal charge, after his school received a threat.
Kentucky State Police, Louisa Police and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office were called to Louisa Middle School Thursday morning about a threat the school had received. After investigating, a 12-year-old boy was charged with third-degree terroristic threatening.
Thursday morning’s incident was the latest in a rash of threats schools around the region have received, possibly spurred by a school shooting in Georgia last week and the I-75 shooting in Laurel County over the weekend.
KSP is urging parents to talk with their children about the dangers of posting threatening messages on social media and to report any concerning information they may see online.
“Kentucky State Police will continue to work with school resource officers, local law enforcement and school administrators to ensure the safety of all students,” KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. said. “As a trooper and a father who has children in our school system, I can assure you that we will take any threat seriously and make arrests where possible.”
