PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Former Pike County Judge-Executive Wayne T. Rutherford has died.
Rutherford was Pike County’s longest serving top official, serving off and on for 22 years, from 1970 to 2015. He is being remembered for his contributions in office, which include creating the county’s first road department, establishing countywide garbage service, and numerous contributions to libraries, senior citizens and emergency services.
Wayne T. Rutherford was 82 years old.
Funeral services are being handled by J.W. Call and Son Funeral Home, in Pikeville. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the funeral and burial will be private. However, Pikeville United Methodist Church will livestream the service on Youtube, and a link will be shared to Facebook.
A public memorial service will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the University of Pikeville, Judi’s Place for Kids, Westcare Homeless Shelter or the Pike County Public Library.
