LOUISA, Ky. — A man wanted on fugitive warrants out of two states was arrested Thursday in Lawrence County, but not before leading Louisa Police, Lawrence County deputies and U.S. Marshals on a chase through downtown Louisa and onto U.S. 23.

Ronald Adkins, 53, of Huntington, W.Va., was wanted on warrants out of West Virginia and Tennessee.

Police initially tried to pull over his Ford Mustang on South Main Cross Street, but the vehicle fled instead. Spike strips were used at the intersection of Main Cross and Powhatan streets, and they were successful in blowing out three of Adkins’s tires, but he continued to flee.

The vehicle made its way to U.S. 23, and police say Adkins ran red lights and drove on the wrong side of the highway at speeds above 100 mph. Eventually, the flat tires took their toll and caused the Mustang to crash.

Adkins was arrested and now faces charges of fleeing police, multiple counts of wanton endangerment and several traffic violations, in addition to the original fugitive warrants.
