GIRLS BASKETBALL: Phelps Cruises Past Jenkins Behind Triple Double-Double Effort

The Phelps Lady Hornets were in control from start to finish on Monday night, rolling past Jenkins with a 75-40 win at home.

Phelps finished the night with three players recording double doubles, setting the tone on both ends of the floor. Caleigh McCoy led the way with 24 points and 10 rebounds. McCoy shot 44.4 percent from the field, 20 percent from three-point range, and was 7 for 8 at the free throw line. She now has 386 points on the season, averaging an impressive 21.4 points per game.

Kaylyn Slone followed closely with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Slone shot 50 percent from the field, 25 percent from beyond the arc, and went 4 for 5 from the line. Kadie Yates added another strong performance with 14 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 66.7 percent from the field and converting every free throw attempt.

As a team, the Lady Hornets shot 41.2 percent from the field, 17.6 percent from three-point range, and 84.2 percent from the free throw line. Phelps also controlled the glass, finishing with 51 total rebounds. Individual stats for Jenkins were not available at press time.

The win moves Phelps to 9-9 on the season. The Lady Hornets will be back on the court Wednesday, Jan. 21, when they host Prestonsburg for a 7 p.m. tip. Jenkins drops to 5-11 and will be in action Tuesday, Jan. 20, on the road at Council, Virginia, with a 6 p.m. start.
