Guilty Plea Entered In Shooting Case

Wise County, VA — A Wise County man has pleaded guilty following a day of violence that resulted in a manhunt and an evacuation at Mountain Empire Community College back in March. 44-year-old David Wayne Scott of Big Stone Gap, pleaded guilty to stealing a gun, firing a shot through the window of a home, resisting arrest among other charges. Scott’s trial was scheduled to begin Monday. Authorities conducted an over two-hour manhunt for Scott which caused concern at the college after the gun Scott stole was from a vehicle parked nearby. Scott pointed the gun at his sister and shot through a window at a home and then hid near the college which was temporarily closed and evacuated. Police reported that when he was arrested, Scott admitted that he was on drugs. Scott faces up to 39 years in prison at his sentencing which has been set for January 7, 2020.
