HIGH SCHOOL: Kentucky sports gets green light from KHSAA

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s Board of Control voted 16-2 to move ahead with fall sports during a special meeting call on Thursday.

The lone hurdle remains with Gov. Andy Beshear who could delay the start until students return to school on Sept. 28.

Beshear, whose son participates on a traveling sport team, said this week he was concerned about the safety of players, coaches and fans.

Two other options were on the table to push dates. Both alternatives failed by votes of 15-3 (Option 2) and 13-5 (Option 3).

District representatives taking part in the meeting said their schools could possibly not play because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

West Virginia high school teams, except for Logan County, began practice this past Monday.
