Ice storm downing power lines as it moves through area

A wave of freezing rain moving through Eastern Kentucky is leaving thousands without power Thursday morning.

The outages are following the path of the storm, as ice-covered trees and limbs topple power lines.

At 6:30 a.m., Kentucky Power was reporting more than 21,000 customers without power, mostly between Louisa and Ashland. Fewer than 300 outages were reported south of Louisa, with 248 of those in Johnson County.

Meanwhile, Big Sandy RECC was reporting 467 outages, with 391 in Johnson County.
