PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Johnson County man who was arrested back in June after police raided his home and found more than a pound-and-a-half of meth is now expected to enter a guilty plea in federal court.

Edward Carl Ramey, 46, of Paintsville, is currently charged with distributing meth, possession of more than 500 grams of meth with the intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to court records, the Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement Special Investigations unit received information that Ramey had a large quantity of meth in his possession, so they sent and undercover witness to his home to buy more than an ounce of the drug for $500. The next day, police raided his home, seizing more than 700 grams of meth and nearly all of the money used in the undercover buy.

Nine days after his arrest, he was indicted by a federal grand jury.

On Friday, his attorney asked the court that he be allowed to change his plea, but did not say whether or not he has reached a deal with prosecutors or the details of his plea. On Monday, a judge granted that request, setting a hearing for Thursday in Pikeville.

Depending on how Ramey pleads, he could face up to life in prison, based on the charges filed against him.
