Kentucky sets new weekly record for COVID cases

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear is reporting that Kentucky once again set a new record for weekly coronavirus cases, with more than 12,000 last week.

Kentucky currently has 78 counties currently in the red zone, or the most severe level of transmission. That includes nearly all of Eastern Kentucky.

The latest numbers show nearly 1,200 new cases reported on Sunday, bringing the total to nearly 121,000.

Four more people have died, raising the death toll to 1,565.

More than 1,100 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, including 279 in intensive care and 148 on ventilators.

The state’s positivity rate has now climbed above 7 percent.
