KSP looks to return to top of cruiser contest

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky State Police is looking to return to the top of the Best Looking Cruiser Contest, and this time, they’re calling in air support.

Each year, the American Association of State Troopers holds the Best-Looking Cruiser Contest to showcase state law enforcement agencies around the country. The public votes for their favorites, with top 13 being featured in the association’s calendar. The winner is featured as the January car and is showcased on the cover.

“This contest is a great opportunity to highlight the professionalism our troopers and pilots bring to the job every day,” KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. said. “We’re proud to represent Kentucky, and we’re hoping everyone joins us in casting their vote.”

Kentucky State Police won the contest in 2021 and 2022, but has been bested by Florida the past two years. Kentucky finished fifth in 2023 and second in 2024.

That could be why KSP is going all-out in this year’s contest. The Kentucky photo features not just one vehicle, but three, and one of those is a Bell 407 helicopter from the agency’s air support branch. The aircraft hovers between a 2024 Mustang GT cruiser and a 2024 Dodge Durango pursuit vehicle.

“The Kentucky State Police are among the best of Kentucky’s public servants, and supporting the agency in this contest is just one way we can say thank you,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “I’ll be casting my vote for our state police in this contest, and I encourage all Kentuckians to join me so the agency can bring back home a win.”

Voting in the contest begins June 30 and runs until 5p.m., July 11. Each person can vote once a day at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BestLookingCruiser2025.
