Letcher County’s first COVID-19 case confirmed

The first case of novel coronavirus in Letcher County has been confirmed.

At a press conference on Friday, Scott Lockard with the Kentucky River District Health Department reported that a 50-year-old male has tested positive for COVID-19 in Letcher County. The case is the latest in Eastern Kentucky and is the first in Letcher County.

The case is the fourth in the seven-county Kentucky River District, which includes Letcher, Leslie, Knott, Perry, Wolfe, Lee and Owsley counties.

“With this being our only fourth case, we will see more, and we should expect to see more,” Lockard said during the press conference.

Positive coronavirus cases have also been confirmed in several Eastern Kentucky counties, including Martin, Breathitt, Lawrence, Pike and Perry counties.
