Local school districts work to ‘stuff the bus’ with tornado relief donations

School districts across Eastern Kentucky are joining together to lend a helping hand to victims of the deadly tornado outbreak in Western Kentucky over the weekend.

The districts are working on a “stuff the bus” collection drive, with each district collecting specific items. The include:

  • Pike County and Pikeville Independent are collecting toys
  • Floyd County and Paintsville Independent are collecting blankets
  • Johnson County and Jenkins Independent are collecting water
  • Lawrence and Magoffin counties are collecting cleaning supplies
  • Martin County is collecting stable food items and toiletries.

School districts in northeastern Kentucky are also taking part and are collecting different items.

The collection drive will take place all of this week. Organizers ask that only new items be donated.

Then, buses from all of the districts will meet on Dec. 20 and form a caravan to travel across the state to deliver the relief supplies.
