Opioid abatement commission to meet

FRANKFORT, Ky. — A new committee tasked with determining how to spend a portion of the money received from a pharmaceutical company and three distributors will meet Tuesday afternoon.

The Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission will hold its first meeting at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting is open to the public and will be livestreamed on Attorney General Daniel Cameron’s Youtube page, which can be found here, youtube.com/watch?v=KMeYDVJlGks.

Cameron appointed the commission last month. It has the job of overseeing $483 million the state is receiving as part of a settlement with Johnson & Johnson and three distributors over their role in the state’s opioid addiction crisis.

Half of that money will go to cities and counties for abatement efforts. The committee will offer recommendations for how to spend the other half.
