Local shop celebrates Record Store Day

Record Store Day is observed twice each year, including on Black Friday.

Black Friday is more than just a shopping day for music fans. It’s also the fall observance of Record Store Day.

Record Store Day celebrates independent record stores and is observed twice each year. It seeks to support those independent stores by offering music releases exclusively available at the shops on Record Store Day. Many of those releases are made available on vinyl, which has seen a resurgence in popularity.

Bruce Springsteen, U2, Eric Clapton, Cardi B and Katy Perry are some of the many artists with exclusive Record Store Day releases.

Mountain Music Exchange Manager Kevin Harmon says Record Store Day is an opportunity for music lovers and vinyl collectors to come together and get some great music that’s only available during the event.

Grand Rapids, Michigan resident Gary Lockard, comes home to visit his mother in Belfry on Thanksgiving each year. He also visits Mountain Music Exchange in Pikeville to celebrate Record Store Day and catch up with some fellow music lovers.
