PIKEVILLE, Ky. — After 6 years of hard work from members at VFW Post 3769, a Lockheed T-33 subsonic American Jet is now statically displayed at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Pikeville, Kentucky.
They received the long-awaited jet on Veteran’s Day after it made its journey from Maryland.
The US Navy used the T-33 as a land-based trainer starting in 1949, it has been used for such tasks as drone director and target towing. Since then, these planes have been phased out and replaced by different models.
After settling the plane down on the cement pad, the post put in long hours of work to clean up and restore the plane.
Similar to how military men and women bond together to complete a common goal, Nathan Sesco from VFW Post 3769 says that multiple entities including the City of Pikeville, UMG, Ken’s Towing, and their post members have worked diligently to complete this display in time for Veteran’s Day.
The Pikeville Rotary Club also had a hand in making this display possible as they made a generous to help with the cost of the display.
