PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Floyd County man wanted on warrants from several counties was arrested after police were informed he had been sitting in a Pikeville gas station parking lot for an extended amount of time.

But the arrest didn’t come easy.

Just after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, a Pikeville Police officer at the Double Kwik gas station on South Mayo Trail was informed that the man had been sitting in his car for hours without getting out. The man told the officer he was waiting for his sister, but wouldn’t give his name.

Using social media and driver’s license records, officers were able to identify the man as Byron Bentley, 41, of Grethel. They also learned he was wanted on several warrants out of Floyd, Letcher and Wise counties.

Bentley refused multiple commands to get out of his car, then appeared to reach toward the center console, where police later found a knife. Officers finally arrested him by smashing his window to get into the car.

Police say he had the seat belt tied to the door handle in an attempt to prevent officers from being able to open it.

In addition to the warrants, he is now also charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
