SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — What appears to be a case of horseplay gone wrong has resulted in a Magoffin County man facing a serious criminal charge.

Police were called to a Salyersville home Sunday afternoon, over a report of a man cutting his brother’s throat with a knife. Deputies responding to the call immediately placed Justin Paul Baldwin, 37, under arrest.

Baldwin told police that he was holding up a knife to show to his brother, when his brother turned his head, cutting his throat on the blade. The brother said Baldwin came up behind him and put the knife to his throat, but he wasn’t sure if he actually meant to harm him.

A woman in the house also told officers that Baldwin held the knife to his brother’s throat and appeared to be playing around, when the brother turned his head and cut himself on the knife.

Baldwin was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, a felony punishable by 10-to-20 years in prison.
