Magoffin schools placed on lockdown as precaution

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — The Magoffin County School District has placed its schools on lockdown, as a precautionary measure, following an incident in a nearby county.

“Law enforcement has informed us about an individual sought in connection to an incident in another county,” Magoffin County Schools announced in a social media post. “As a safety measure, our schools are on lockdown. There are no threats to the schools. For the safety of all, please refrain from visiting during this period as visitors are not allowed. We’ll inform parents as soon as the lockdown is lifted.”

The Salyersville Independent reported that the lockdown was prompted following a shooting in Wolfe County.
