PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man has been charged with theft, after he allegedly refused to return a lost phone when he discovered there was no reward.

Police were called last Wednesday by a woman who reported the incident. She said her son lost his iPhone 12 when he left it on the roof of the car. A short time later, they received a text from the phone saying it had been found and could be retrieved from an address on Phyllis Lane.
When they went to get the phone, they said 44-year-old Phillip Kendrick came outside and asked about a reward for finding the phone. When he was told there was no reward, he allegedly told them they could “kick rocks” and went back to his apartment with the phone.
After the family reported the matter to police, an officer tried calling the phone several times, but got no answer. Eventually, Kendrick called dispatch and told them police could pick up the phone at his home.
When an officer went to retrieve it, Kendrick was placed under arrest for theft of mislaid property. The charge is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail.
