DORTON, Ky. — A Pike County man is in jail after reportedly leading police on a chase.

It all began just before midnight Tuesday when a state trooper clocked a car going 85 miles an hour on US 23 near Dorton. He attempted to pull the car over, but it wouldn’t stop, resulting in chase that lasted for several minutes.

The trooper wrote in his report that the driver slammed on his brakes at least four times in what appeared to be an attempt to cause the officer to crash into him.

The car finally stopped at an address on Bear Fork and the driver, identified as Jimmy Hunt, 21, of Jenkins, was arrested.

Hunt reportedly apologized to the officer and said he only ran because he didn’t want to go back to jail, since his license was suspended for DUI.

He was arrested and charged with fleeing police, wanton endangerment, resisting arrest and several traffic violations.
