BELCHER, Ky. — A Pike County man with a lengthy criminal history has been arrested on felony charges, after his mother accused him of keeping her prisoner in her own home.

Alvery Clark Potter Jr., 48, of Belcher, was arrested Monday, one day after he allegedly fled from police.
On Sunday, his mother reported that he had been keeping her inside her house for four days and assaulted her if she tried to leave. The woman was taken to the hospital for a possible broken arm.
When police located him on Sunday, they say he fled and they found his car abandoned a short time later. He was arrested at his home the next day.
Potter is now charged with unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree assault, fleeing police, driving on a suspended license and resisting arrest.
Potter has a long history with the Pike County court system, having been named a defendant in 33 previous cases, dating back to 1996. Most of those cases are for misdemeanors and traffic violations.
Potter is now being held in the Pike County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.
