More Eastern Ky. counties turn red in latest update

The latest map of coronavirus transmission in Eastern Kentucky.

FRANKFORT, Ky. — More of Eastern Kentucky’s counties are now considered critical in terms of coronavirus transmission.

Magoffin and Breathitt are the two latest counties in the Mountain Top News coverage area to turn red, leaving only Lawrence, Leslie and Letcher in the orange category.

The latest statewide numbers show more than 1,800 new cases reported on Wednesday, raising the total to more than 101,000.

Fourteen more people have died, raising the death toll to 1,442.

927 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19, including 235 in intensive care and 110 on ventilator.

The state’s positivity rate has now risen to 6.07 percent.
