Suspect shot after ramming police roadblock

WHITESBURG, Ky. — Kentucky State Police has confirmed that an officer-involved shooting occurred Thursday morning in Whitesburg.

Just before 2 a.m., KSP Post 13 reports that Post 10 notified them and Whitesburg Police of a pursuit heading into Letcher County along U.S. 119. he Mountain Eagle in Whitesburg is reporting that the incident involved a police chase out of Harlan County. The suspect fled into Letcher County and Whitesburg Police had set up a roadblock to intercept him.

Rather than stopping, the suspect struck a Whitesburg Police vehicle, prompting officers to fire their guns at the car.

The car continued to flee, but ended when the driver lost control of his vehicle and ran into an embankment.

Jared Ratliff, 28, of Jenkins, was taken to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Ratliff has been charged with wanton endangerment.

The incident remains under investigation.
