UPDATE, 3 p.m. — Police have now released details of the crash that killed a Prestonsburg man this morning.
It happened around 7 a.m. on U.S. 23 at Watergap, near the Route 80 interchange.
Prestonsburg Police say Steven Newsome, of Virgie, was driving a Dodge Ram along U.S. 23 when he began experiencing a medical emergency.
Police were soon flooded with calls of Newsome’s vehicle swerving all over the road and driving in the wrong lane of traffic.
Eventually, Newsome’s truck collided head-on with a Chevrolet Colorado driven by Jerome Jenkins, of Prestonsburg. Jenkins died at the scene.
Newsome was taken to Highlands ARH, where he is said to be in stable condition. Police say he is cooperating with their investigation.
Police say no foul play is suspected, but they will present all evidence to a grand jury at the close of their investigation.

Floyd County Coroner Greg Nelson confirmed to Mountain Top News that one person was killed in the crash.
No other details have been released.
The crash is causing significant delays for motorists traveling in the area. Traffic is being directed along Route 1428, between Prestonsburg and Allen, to get around the scene. That had cars traveling in both directions backed up to the Emma Bridge earlier this morning.
