Power lines are beginning to fall across the region, as the strongest band of freezing rain moved into the area late Monday afternoon.
At 6 p.m., Kentucky Power reported more than 9,000 outages, up from more about 6,000 earlier in the day. Those outages include around 2,200 in Leslie County, more than 1,800 in Lawrence County, more than 250 in Floyd County, more than 200 in Perry County, and about 50 in Letcher County.
Big Sandy RECC is reporting more than 300 customers without power in Lawrence County, nearly 150 in Knott County, more than 60 in Johnson County.
Appalachian Power is reporting more than 24,000 outages across Virginia and West Virginia, which is up 4,000 from earlier Monday afternoon. Those include more than 200 in Mingo County, W.Va., and about 70 in Dickenson County, Va.
