BOONEVILLE, Ky. — The search is over for Owsley County Sheriff Brent Lynch, who was arrested on an assault charge Thursday.

The charge stems from a fight at a girls’ basketball game last week between Owsley County and Perry County Central. During the game, players began fighting and Lynch, who is part of the Owsley County coaching staff, allegedly assaulted one of the girls.

Lynch is now charged with fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor. He was booked in the Three Forks Regional Jail, in Beattyville.

Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard is handling the investigation.
