PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man has been arrested after police say he stole two cars from students at the University of Pikeville.
Pikeville Police were originally called to the second theft just after midnight on Monday, when they received a report that a car had been taken from the top floor of the Hambley Boulevard parking garage. While investigating that case, police learned that UPike Public Safety had received several reports of cars being broken into over the weekend, as well as another case of a car being stolen, only to be returned to the same parking lot a short time later.
Just before 10 p.m. Monday, police located the second stolen car, and they also learned that the first theft victim had obtained security photos of his car being taken. Police were able to identify the man in the photos as Johnny Slone, 19, who was staying at a homeless shelter a short distance from where the second stolen car was found.
When police went to arrest him, they allegedly found him with a key fob from the stolen vehicle, as well as two credit cards with the victim’s name on them.
Slone was arrested and charged with trespassing two counts of auto theft.
