VIRGIE, Ky. — A Pike County man has been arrested on child porn charges, following an investigation by Kentucky State Police.

Gary Don Hampton, 46, of Virgie, was arrested Thursday after the KSP Electronic Crime Branch executed a search warrant at his home. During the search, police discovered an iPhone containing at least 20 images of child pornography was seized.

Police say the investigation began after they discovered him allegedly using social media to engage in sexual conduct and to communicate with someone he thought was a juvenile.

Hampton is now charged with five counts of possession of child porn involving a victim younger than 12. That charge is punishable by 5-to-10 years in prison.

He is also charged with 15 counts of possession of child porn involving a victim between the ages of 12 and 18. That charge is punishable by 1-to-5 years in prison.

Hampton is currently being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
