The Pike County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police responded to an assault at a Zebulon grocery store. Police say a woman was ambushed as she got out of her vehicle by another woman who tried to take her keys.

Officers reviewed security video which showed a woman — later identified as 36-year-old Darla Nashae Yates — approaching a white SUV, then grabbing the driver as she got out and trying to take her keys. The victim told police Yates threatened to harm her if she didn’t give her the keys, but the woman held on, causing Yates to walk away.

While police were reviewing the video, a clerk informed them that Yates had returned and was walking past the front of the store.

Yates was arrested and charged with attempted carjacking, fourth-degree assault and public intoxication. The carjacking charge is a felony, punishable by 10-to-20 years in prison.
