PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville woman is facing the possibility of several years in prison, after allegedly attacking her neighbor with a knife.

Pikeville Police were called to a report of an assault at Northgate Apartments just after 2:30 Sunday morning. When they arrived, a woman told police that her neighbor, Kathryn Frances Belt, 31, attacked her with a knife.
The woman told police Belt had slammed a door, so she opened her door to ask her to quiet down. She said at that point, Belt kicked her door and threatened to kill the woman and her cats. The woman said Belt tried to cut her throat, but she was able to block her with her forearm.
The woman had an open cut on her hand and was able to show police video of Belt standing over her with a knife, while the woman kicked at her to keep her away.
When questioned by police, Belt turned over a folding knife that had blood on it. The police report said she appeared “manifestly under the influence” of alcohol and told police she had “just wanted to be left alone.”
Belt has now been charged with first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, menacing, terroristic threatening and alcohol intoxication. The burglary and assault charges are each punishable by 10-to-20 years in prison, if she is convicted.
Belt is currently being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
