PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — Mountain roads proved too much for a Louisville couple on the run from police.

Prestonsburg Police got a call from Magoffin County early Saturday morning, informing them that a driver suspected of DUI fled from police there and was headed toward Prestonsburg. Police were waiting near the Mountain Arts Center when the driver approached and then kept on going onto U.S. 23 toward Pikeville.

The chase continued into Pike County, when the driver turned onto Sen.r Kelsey Friend Boulevard. But once past the airport, the narrow winding road proved too much for his driving skills, and he got stuck in a ditch.

Police then found 16 grams of meth in the vehicle, and both the driver, 36-year-old Matthew McMahan, and passenger, 34-year-old Ashley Wilson, were arrested on drug trafficking charges. McMahan also faces additional charges from the chase.

Wilson found herself facing more charges, after jail staff reported finding 6 more grams of meth and 2.5 grams of fentanyl in a body cavity.

Both are being held in the Floyd County Detention Center.
