McDOWELL, Ky. — A Floyd County man who police say tried to avoid a roadblock found himself heading to jail on drug trafficking charges.

State troopers and sheriff’s deputies were conducting the roadblock at McDowell last Thursday night, when they said Freddie Hunter, 62, of Melvin, stopped in the middle of the road and turned around in a church parking lot. Officers pursued and pulled him over when he came to the end of a dead-end street.

Police spotted a pill bottle in the center console and found it to contain 20 grams of meth and several oxycodone and hydrocodone tablets. The officers also found another pill bottle with 70 more grams of meth, as well as $1,200 in cash.

Hunter was arrested and charged with two counts of drug trafficking and one count of drug possession.
