Police were called to investigate after two cats were found shot with a pellet gun on the property of the Millard Christian School in Louisa, killing one and injuring the other. Security video showed a truck known to be used by Marcus Wilkes, 47, had been on the property, so police obtained a search warrant for a pellet gun at his home.

When officers went to search the home, they immediately smelled marijuana when Wilkes answered the door. Wilkes turned over a pellet gun and pellets, but police found nine marijuana plants growing in the house, along with seeds, processed marijuana and two guns.

Wilkes reportedly told police he shot the cats because they kept urinating on a couch he had outside.

He was arrested on cultivating marijuana, trafficking marijuana, possession of a weapon on school property, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, cruelty to animals and drug possession charges.
