Police: Man who opened fire in grocery store parking lot was hallucinating

MARTIN, Ky. — Police say a man was hallucinating when he opened fire in a grocery store parking lot Tuesday night.

It happened around 8 p.m. at the Martin Save A Lot, in Floyd County. The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office was called for a report of shots fired and deputies quickly located their suspect upon arrival.

Blake Raines, 23, of Martin, reportedly admitted to firing his gun in the parking lot, saying he was defending himself from a group of people who were trying to kill him.

But witnesses on the scene said there was no one else in the parking lot while Raines was shooting. Police also learned one of the men he claimed was trying to kill him was actually in jail at the time of the shooting.

The police report notes that Raines’ eyes were dilated and he was “obviously” hallucinating.

He was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment and public intoxication.
