Jonathan Joseph Howell, 43, of Auxier, was arrested on two counts of terroristic threatening Aug. 9. The arrest warrant accuses him of texting a postal employee, saying he would be going to the post office to “shoot it up.” The warrant also says he texted another threat to the employee, threatening to burn his house down and kill him and his family.

Howell has been held in the Floyd County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond since his arrest. On Monday, his attorney filed a motion to reduce his bond, but the next day, police served him with papers charging him with a felony charge intimidating a participant in the legal process.

Court records allege Howell contacted the postal employee again to try to influence testimony. The witness tampering charge is a felony, punishable by up to five years is prison.

Howell is scheduled to appear in court next week to answer the charge.
