Pikeville, KY — In yesterday’s Primary Election, two political foes will go head to head to see who will be the next Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Incumbent Matt Bevin will go up against current Attorney General Andy Beshear after Beshear thwarted a strong showing by Rocky Adkins to win the Democratic nomination. Due to term limits, current Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes could not run for re-election opening the door for Heather French Henry to win the Democratic nomination in a very strong race. Henry received 70 percent of the vote. She will go up against Republican Michael Adams in November. It will be Daniel Cameron on the Republican ticket for Attorney General going against a former AG Greg Stumbo in the fall. Stumbo had no opposition on the Democratic ticket. In other statewide races, Current Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles will face Democratic nominee Robert Conway, Sheri Donahue will face Incumbent Mike Harmon for Auditor of Public Accounts and Michael Bowman won the Democratic nomination for State treasurer and will face Republican Allison Ball who had no opposition in the Primary. Locally, there was one race for Circuit Judge Family Court 35th Judicial Circuit 3rd Division which saw four candidates filed and the two receiving the top votes will square off in November and that will be Justin Cory Hamilton and Kent Varney.
