Rock guitarist Eddie Van Halen has died. He was 65 years old.

He was lead guitarist for Van Halen, the band he formed with his brother, Alex. He had been battling cancer in recent years.

The news was announced Tuesday afternoon by his son, Wolf Van Halen.
