FRANKFORT, Ky. — Members of the public will have a chance to pay their respects to former Gov. Brereton Jones, when he lies in state in the Capitol rotunda next week.

Jones was Kentucky’s 58th governor, from 1991 to 1995. He also served as lieutenant governor from 1987 to 1991.

He died on Monday at the age of 84.

“Gov. Jones was a dedicated leader and a distinguished thoroughbred owner who worked to strengthen Kentucky for our families,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “Please join Britainy and me in praying for Libby and his family.”

Jones will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The family will also host a public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. that day in the rotunda.

A funeral service will be held in Midway on Tuesday, with a private burial to follow.

Beshear has ordered flags at all state office buildings to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, and he has asked the public to follow suit.
