BOONS CAMP, Ky. — A Johnson County man is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly attacking a woman with a machete Friday night.

Kentucky State Police was called to a residence in Martin County, where the woman had been dropped off after the attack. When troopers arrived, they found the woman standing on the porch with her wrist wrapped in bandages and blood on her clothing.
The woman told police that Ronnie Ray Mollett, 51, of Boons Camp, had been complaining of hearing voices and got upset when she told him there were no voices. She said he then got his machete and swung it at her side, so she dropped her arm to block the attack.
When arrested, Mollett told police he was trying to swat her rear with the flat side of the blade and she got cut when she dropped her arm.
Mollett was arrested on a charge of first-degree assault, a felony punishable by 10-to-20 years in prison. He is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
